Principal Engineer
Eyefinity produces web-based software and services for the eyecare industry. I develop the various company portals including: electronic claims filing, e-commerce purchasing with partner showcases, individualized web sites for member doctors, optical lab order processing, and on-line educational material. At Eyefinity, the developers are responsible for the design specifications, project timelines, unit-testing, build and release functions, and maintenance of the development and acceptance-testing environments.
I am also responsible for managing the technical relationship with our e-commerce partners. We share mission-critical, high-availability services and data with our partners in real time. The sensitive communication and coordination with our partners is essential to our mutual success.
I also coordinate our periodic Developer Summits which are designed to introduce and discuss new technologies to our teams of developers. By exploring the latest technology, we can understand its potential use within our enterprise specifically and expand the knowledge of the team in general.
As Principal Engineer my responsibilities include the review and prioritization of our technical projects and setting the direction of our software architecture and hardware assets. I serve as a mentor to our development teams, conduct code reviews, provide examples of best development practices, and continue to participate in the development of our product and services.
A Note about USCS International, DST Innovis, YourAccounts.com, and DST Output:
USCS International's two subsidiaries, CableData and International Billing Services (IBS), were renamed due to a merger with DST Systems in 2000. After the merger USCS was dissolved, CableData was renamed DST Innovis, and IBS was renamed Output Technologies (OTS) briefly but is now known as DST Output. YourAccounts.com was the name of OTS' electronic solutions division. That division now exists within DST Output. The merger also consolidated offices at the El Dorado Hills campus.

Responsibilities included development and coordination of the company's public internet web site, the company's extranet (customer-oriented web site), and the company's intranet (for use by DST Innovis associates). The development was performed by a team of internet developers, graphic artists, and content-reviewers - all coordinated by my position as Technical Team Lead.
Emphasis placed on web-based interfaces to the company's various information systems (including customer service, sales, administration, and financial accounting) as well as publishing tools for associates' use when posting internal and external web information pages.
Served as the chair of the Web Technology Forum which includes internal developers and content-providers from within DST Innovis and our sister subsidiaries.

USCS International is the parent company to subsidiaries including CableData and International Billing Services. Working in the Corporate Information Services group I was responsible for the mission-critical customer service application.
In addition to the direct user interface to the various databases, I was responsible for many internal and external web pages that interface with the database. These web interfaces benefit the internal staff (via an intranet) and customers (via an extranet).
Responsible for the Call Center Telephony Integration of our customer service automated call distribution system and the customer service application.

Application Development
Using the fourth-generation database language continued the development of a custom insurance carrier information system program designed to consolidate and accommodate all aspects of an insurance carriers needs including; remote database record transfers, policy premium calculations; policy document generation and storage; retain policy change endorsements; generate billing documents and apply cash received. This included back-end processes and controls and front-end user interfaces.
Network Management
Designed and implemented AEICs network topology and strategy to include manageable hubs, remote bridges, CSU/DSU communication via T-1 data lines, switching hubs, remote communication devices and AT&T System 75 digital phone switch configurations.
Database Management
Beyond just the language used to program the company's mission-critical database, managed and serviced the 4th Dimension and Oracle databases using vendor-supplied tools as well as personal custom-built tools. This includes data integrity and backup safety.
User Training
Wrote and published the User Reference Guide for the custom programs for the company. Travel to remote agent locations to install, demonstrate and train the users on the program functions.
Other Duties as Assigned
Participated in many information system-related functions including: retain a local internet service provider; design and manage the company's web pages; draft computer and information use policies; continue to be a resource for other developers and the company's help desk.
